Cervical smear test
Performed in Obstetrics and gynaecology.
What is it?
A cervical smear test takes a few cells from the cervix to be analysed. It is part of screening for cervical cancer.
What to expect
The sample is quick, taking a few minutes, and can be slightly uncomfortable but is not usually painful. Light bleeding is possible afterwards; results come after laboratory analysis.
