Electromyogram (EMG)

What is it?

An electromyogram (EMG) measures the electrical activity of muscles and of the nerves that control them. It helps to understand the origin of some weakness, pain or tingling.

What to expect

A thin needle is placed in the muscle, which can be slightly painful, and small sensors are placed on the skin. The test usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.
