Common procedures

PET scan

Performed in Nuclear medicine.

What is it?

A PET scan (positron emission tomography) is an imaging exam that uses a weakly radioactive substance to show how organs are working. It is often used to study certain cancers, the heart or the brain.

What to expect

After the injection you wait about an hour before the images, and the whole visit takes about two hours. It is painless; fasting is often requested.
