Common procedures

MRI

Performed in Radiology and medical imaging.

What is it?

An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan produces detailed pictures of the inside of the body. It is used to understand a health problem, plan a treatment or check how a treatment is working.

What to expect

The scan is painless and usually takes 15 minutes to 1 hour. Metal items such as jewellery and keys must be removed before entering the machine, and you must stay still.
